The world is getting smaller by the day. Gone are the days when business owners were happy to operate within the boundaries of their own cities or even countries. With far more liberal export and import policies adopted by nearly every country in the world, more and more business houses are setting up manufacturing, marketing and retailing outlets all across the globe. Knowledge sharing and technology exchange is now the new business mantra bringing varied businesses and cultures together. This means, massive increase of human traffic across countries. Today it is not unnatural to see thousands of Americans relocating for business and official reasons to remote corners of the Asian sub-continent, Europeans to China or even Asians spreading themselves to the Gulf countries. Relocation within the country is stressful enough; it is easy to imagine what families of those who are relocating to an otherwise completely unfamiliar country must be going through. Again, like inter-country relocation, overseas relocation also requires meticulous planning, except the planning here consists of various other parameters like passport, visa and other export documentation, which an inter-country relocation does not require. There are plenty of professional international movers who have adequate experience in relocating families to various parts of the world. The internet is a good source for finding such companies – but perhaps the best bet would be a company who is recommended either by your employer or by one of your close friends or relatives – as first hand experience of overseas relocation is a great asset. While you are at the planning stage, here are some tips to help you in the planning process: - Considering the moving date: This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of moving overseas. While the first and last few days of any month happen to be the busiest days, you also have to consider the destination country’s holiday schedules also so that your goods are not unnecessary delayed at the port of entry. You would at this stage need to understand the overseas moving process in totality. Your packed goods will be carried to the nearest port of exit by road, rail, steamship or flight. From there your goods will be loaded to the ship or if you decide to go by air, into an aircraft. Again the same process follows when your goods reach the destination country. So consulting the calendar of the destination country will be useful. - Packing: When it is a matter of overseas move, it is always better to give the responsibility of packing to a professional company. None of us, even with the hardest practice sessions can pack our household goods for them to be ready for shipment in shipping crates for protecting them from damage. Your goods will be shipped in a lift-van, steamship container or an air container depending on your choice of transport and the destination to be reached. For instance the size of a lift-van ranges between 185 and 210 cubic feet. A forklift is required to lift this wooden or plywood container with skids. Usually steamship companies supply these containers. |
